Don’t Let Busy-ness Steal Your Peace, Prepare Now!

Don’t Let Busy-ness Steal Your Peace, Prepare Now!

Sometimes I feel like the idea of being busy gets too much of my brain power. Busy-ness is perceived in our culture as a positive attribute. But why? Are we actually more productive if we are overwhelmed by being busy? There is a phenomenon where individuals and organizations prioritize being busy over achieving meaningful outcomes. This lack of focus on long term goals can lead to inefficiency and decreased productivity.

The “business of busy-ness” can lead to burnout (quickly!), decrease effectiveness, undermine preparation for the future, distract us from more important work, and create a culture of busy-ness instead of productivity.

We need to set clear goals and priorities, schedule down time and self care, focus on high-impact activities, and learn to emphasize quality over quantity

Busy-ness has become a badge of honor in American culture: but have you ever stopped to think about how it may be affecting your life—especially your preparedness? As we dive into National Preparedness Month this September, it’s time to reevaluate how the “business of busy-ness” not only distracts us from practical readiness but also distances us from our spiritual health.

Satan’s Weapon: The Culture of Busy-ness. In the Bible, we are called to be vigilant, prepared, and focused on our faith. Yet, Satan, the master of deception, knows that one of the easiest ways to keep us from God is by drowning us in distractions. The constant flurry of activities and endless commitments prevent us from slowing down, reflecting, and connecting with God. Ephesians 6:11 reminds us to “put on the whole armor of God,” but how can we do that if we’re too busy to notice the spiritual attacks coming our way? By staying overly focused on our schedules, tasks, and material goals, Satan creates an atmosphere where preparedness, both in terms of emergency readiness and spiritual vigilance takes a back seat

Busy-ness Kills Preparedness: During National Preparedness Month, we’re encouraged to take the necessary steps to be ready for life’s emergencies. But how many of us are too preoccupied to plan? The business of life keeps us from taking the time to organize emergency kits, update our family plans, or even restock essential supplies. Imagine how ill-prepared we are for the unexpected simply because we’re too busy to stop and think ahead. Similarly, this relentless culture of busyness keeps us spiritually unprepared. Jesus often took time to rest and pray demonstrating that even in the midst of serving others, there was a need for quiet reflection and preparation for what lay ahead.

Preparedness is Biblical: Proverbs 21:31 tells us, “The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord.” Being prepared is not just about emergency kits or supplies; it’s about being spiritually equipped.

Prioritize Rest:

Jesus Himself took time to rest, even amidst His busy ministry. Make time for quiet moments to reflect, plan, and recharge.

Plan Ahead:

Take stock of your emergency supplies, update your family’s plan, and make sure everyone knows what to do in case of a crisis.

Pray:

Don’t neglect your spiritual preparedness. Spend time with God daily, asking for wisdom and guidance in all aspects of your life.

Say "No" More Often:

Busy-ness can often be avoided by simply saying no to unnecessary commitments. Focus on what truly matters, your relationship with God, your family, and your well-being.

Busy-ness is more than just a symptom of modern life—it’s a weapon of Satan designed to distract us from what’s most important: our relationship with God and our ability to be prepared for life’s challenges. Slow down, stay focused, and take the necessary steps to be prepared, both in the practical and spiritual sense. When we clear away the distractions, we allow room for God to guide us, protect us, and lead us toward peace.
